Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world.

Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women. This includes over 900 chapters located in the United States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea.
The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust:

1. Economic Development
2. Educational Development 
3. International Awareness and Involvement
4. Physical and Mental Health
5. Political Awareness and Involvement

Decatur Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

Chartered on October 5, 1973, the mission of the Decatur Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is to continue to expand the Sorority’s commitment of providing public service to local communities, addressing national issues, and supplying assistance towards international crises.

With 50 years of service to our community, Decatur Alumnae thrives on administering quality public service projects and programs that promote human welfare and invest in our youth. The chapter services most of DeKalb County including the cities of Avondale Estates, Brookhaven, Chamblee, Clarkston, Decatur, Doraville, Dunwoody, East-Atlanta (DeKalb County), Ellenwood (DeKalb County), Scottdale, and Tucker.

Key programs and events include mental health seminars, Get Out the Vote events, a Fortitude Fit Expo, World AIDS Day/HIV awareness initiatives and scholarships for graduating high school students.

Over 500 Deltas call Decatur Alumnae ‘home’ and all dedicate themselves in support of the chapter’s commitment to service through efforts that strengthen the community and its members.
